Ellen Tahatakis' work on display
Most staff at Emily Carr have hidden talents and actively maintain creative practices. Ellen Tahatakis, the university's receptionist, is no exception. Most people will recognize her face or voice. She is also a graduate of Emily Carr College of Art + Design 1982 majoring in sculpture. Her love of drawing began at an early age and was influenced by a family of artists.
Her newest drawings are on display in the Library window from May 20th – June 7th.
"This new body of work started with me choosing long format pads and using a multitude of drawing pens, I then began making marks on paper guiding them in a rhythmic action... the outcome is frenetic controlled chaos. I have always loved the spontaneity of pen on paper and the importance of negative space in a energetic canvas.
"Random yet contained
lines of color...
pen strokes bursting with energy,
flicking marks reaching the edge
turning back on themselves,
movement all around.
this way....that way....anyway....."
