Gareth Moore ('04) is one of five young artists from across Canada who have been shortlisted for the Sobey Art Award. The award is among Canada's most prestigious prizes for contemporary art, with the winner taking home a $50,000 prize and finalists awarded $5,000 each. Moore will be representing the West Coast and Yukon region of Canada for the competition.

Work by the 2012 Sobey Art Award finalists will be showcased in an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in Toronto beginning October 24, 2012. The winner will be announced at a Toronto gala on November 16, 2012.

Estalished in 2002, the Sobey Art Award celebrates Canadian contemporary artists under the age of 40. To be eligible, artists must have exhibited in a public or commerical gallery within 18 months of his or her nomination.
