Welcome Students 2012
We begin the 2012 fall semester with 520 new undergraduate students and 20 new graduate students for a total student population of close to 1900 students from over 60 countries. These students represent part of the next generation of visual artists, media artists and designers who will have a significant impact on the future of the creative industries in Canada and the world.
The University received 1200 applications for 395 Foundation (First Year) places and 310 applications for 130 second and third year transfer places. There were 160 resident applications for 30 places in the graduate program and 20 low residency applications. Amongst our successful applicants are many individuals with outstanding academic credentials and accomplished artistic endeavours.
This year’s entering class is composed of 68% females and 32% males. It includes 130 international students from 34 countries and 12 states in the USA, as well as students from 10 Canadian provinces and territories. Of special note, the class also includes 24 new Aboriginal students from across North America. New students will participate in a number of orientation meetings, workshops and social events, all designed to help students settle into their classes and welcome them to the Emily Carr community.
