Spirit of Place/Sport, Culture + Sustainability: BC Young Artists Exhibition

Thursday, February 21, 2008 - 6:00pm - Saturday, March 8, 2008 - 6:00pm

Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design (ECI), in collaboration with the Arts Umbrella, Save the Children Canada, and the 2008 Cultural Olympiad present an exhibition featuring the work of 75 young artists ranging in age from 6-16, selected and mentored by alumni of ECI.

Each of the ECI alumni represent their own region in BC and has selected five young artists from within their area to mentor. The works produced by the young artists reflect the qualities of their regions, the spaces and spirits of their place, along with the pillar themes of the Olympic Games: sport, culture and sustainability.

Spirit of Place/Sport, Culture and Sustainability is an exhibit of 75 large format digital images of the young artists with their work and 15 two-dimensional art works curated from within the 15 provincial regional groups. Included in the exhibition are photos of the senior artists and comments about the creative processes of the project. For more information, go to spiritofplace.eciad.ca.

The exhibition takes place February 21-March 8, 2008, as part of the 2008 Cultural Olympiad and Granville Island's Winterruption Festivities.
