Katherine Soucie: Sans Soucie Launches Vanitas Collection

Vancouver-based clothing and textile designer, Katherine Soucie (09), recently launched her new collection, Vanitas. This new body of work was initiated through the support of the Downtown Eastside Small Arts Grant Program and Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

This past summer Katherine was selected as a grant recipient and was inspired to create this new work after the donation of an obsolete industrial embroidery machine in conjunction with experimentations with a digital embroidery machine recently acquired by Emily Carr. This funding not only encouraged the development of new work, but has also enabled other artists and designers in the community to have access to such equipment for research and development purposes.

Vanitas will be on display at Urbanity in Gastown located at 207 Abbott Street from November 28 to December 6, 2009.

An additional viewing will take place from December 9 to 13 at the Carnegie Centre located at 401 Main Street in Vancouver.
