Beth Carruthers
Bio
An internationally recognised expert in Arts, Culture and Sustainability, Beth is a philosopher, artist, writer and curator. Since 1984 her practice has investigated perception, embodiment, place, ethics, dwelling, and the nature-culture relationship in the context of sustainability, social justice, and inter-species engagement. Constellating research threads among disciplines, her process reflects the complexity of ecological systems.
She contributed to the 2005 Canada Council for the Arts report on Community-Engaged Practices, and in 2006 authored a report for the Canadian Commission for UNESCO on Arts and Sustainability.
With more than 25 years of community engaged practice and sci-arts collaboration, she is also an internationally exhibited and collected photo-artist.
Her work is studied in philosophy, fine arts, and humanities programs throughout the world. Her activities are supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the BC Arts Council, and others. Beth holds an advanced degree in Environment, Philosophy and Public Policy
