Liz Knox uses conceptual strategies, examining systems of interpretation with an emphasis on strategies of irony. Knox has an interest in the optics of reference and the potential of humour. Often her work is site specific and self-referential, being critical of its own situation as art as well as its physical and social situation. Primarily working with text, much of the work exists as artist books, large wall-text installations, videos, sound, drawings and multiples. Knox studied Studio Art at the University of Guelph and moved to Vancouver in 2011 to pursue her Masters Degree in Visual Arts at Emily Carr University. Her work has been shown in exhibitions across Canada and internationally. Recent exhibitions include Black and Yellow Gallery, Vancouver; G Gallery, Toronto; Eyelevel Gallery, Halifax; Lawton Gallery, University of Wisonsin; Vtape, Toronto; the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery, Toronto; and Ephemeroptera, Brooklyn.
