William Callaghan was born in Whitehorse, Yukon and is of Teslin-Tlingit First Nation ancestry born into the Daklaweidi clan (Killer Whale/Eagle)
William has been a full time carver since 2005; his work has been displayed in galleries in Vancouver, Toronto, Alaska and the United Nations in New York. He also gifted a mask to the Right Honorable Michaëlle Jean. He recently carved a totem pole, and helped carve a 30 foot cedar healing canoe. He also displayed a bentwood box in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics.
William is also a traditional dancer; he is part of the Dakhká Khwáan dancers who have danced all over Canada and the US, most notably at the Vancouver 2010 victory ceremony.
William feels that both carving and dancing, compliment each other and inspire a desire to relearn traditional ways bringing back a closer cultural connection and a pathway to a healthier way of life.
