Body Talk

description

Body Talk is a collaboration grad project between myself and a fellow communication design student, Andrea Husky. Both from personal experience and from talking to our peers over the years that Vancouver has a bit of a sociability problem. Through initial secondary research our suspicions turned out to be true and we discovered that Vancouver is perceived as a cold and unfriendly city, both by locals and outsiders. This made us sad so we set out to find a way to approach this situation.

What we ended up with is a multi-pronged awareness campaign that revolves around reminding people to be mindful of their body language (how they consciously or subconsciously portray themselves to others) and to remember to be a bit more friendly to the people they share a city with.

The main component of the the campaign are a series of graphics, these could come in poster form or could be placed in different spots around the city, some more obvious at first glance than others. Most of the applications are context specific, meaning one would not see a graphic intended for a coffee shop window on a big poster (for example). These graphics redirect the user to a website so that they are able to inform themselves a bit more about the campaign and what it is trying to do. We see the site as a one-stop point in the campaign, get in, read the story and get out again. The last thing we wanna do is encourage more people to be looking down on their screens...
