Canadian Coat of Arms

description

The design concept of my version of the Canadian Coat of Arms is inspired by contemporary and traditional symbols and iconography of Canada. Maple leaves are a distinct national symbol for Canada. The chain of maple leaves symbolizes the abundance forests in the Canadian land and as world leader in the sustainable forest management. The toque was a rally symbol during 1837-1839 Patriotes Rebellion. Now, it’s a symbol of freedom and the pursuit of liberty. It represents the Canadian culture in a functional and fashionable way. The Orca or Killer Whale represents the Aboriginals in Canada. It symbolizes family, romance, longevity, harmony, travel, community and protection. It also represents the marine as oppose to the moose is used for land. The moose is strong and powerful and characterizes the husky Canadian wilderness. The shield is comprised of the three maple leaves and the imperial crown. The crown is the indicative of the presence of monarch as Canada’s head of state like how Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s portrait is used as the face of Canada. The colour green is used to signify nature and life. The supporters stand on the canoe compartment that was used as a major transportation. It provides people with a sense of wilderness and an image of the routes of the past. The canoe also represents the connection between the East and the West Canada. The motto is incorporated on two hockey sticks in Latin “Maris et Terra” meaning “Of Sea and Land". This is inspired by the original Canadian motto “A Mari Usque Ad Mare” (“From sea to sea”). I wanted to also integrate the importance of the Canadian land as well as the sea.
