System design for extend the value of historical reclaimed material.

Moving Vancouver towards a zero waste future is going to require changing behaviours and changing the system. In order to reach the target of reducing landfill waste 50% by 2020,changing behaviour will be mandatory - to do deconstruction rather than demolition. Which leads to another question, what can we do other than sending salvage material to recycle center? Each house has its own story, to build up the rich history for Vancouver and continue the store. We need to transform waste into something valuable.

Here in a system for people to customize build and furniture from reclaimed wood from their own house. When you plan to deconstruct your house, talk with the designer about what kind of furniture you would like to have and the most valuable aspects you would like to keep. Alongside the design, you will know how much material that piece of furniture will be need and quotes from local production chains (local transportation company, local wood shop, and local metal shop) according to your order. Once  you decide to go with the design, the local production chain will follow the designer's instruction, processing the parts and assembling the furniture for you.

This system aims to create awareness for people in Vancouver in order to make our city the greenest city, to establish a realistic concept of furniture to preserve the story, to emphasize the experience of deconstruction, to discover the characteristic of the deconstructed home, to solve the problem of construction and demolition waste, to encourage people to cherish the value of reclaimed material, and to provide a sustainable local production chain.
