CEID 120 SU01: Basics of Industrial Design
This course introduces you to the fundamentals of industrial design. In it, you will gain an awareness of the design process with an emphasis on design criteria. This will be followed by formulation of the design brief, development of creative concepts, user testing and quick model making. You will work on a design project through to completion of a full-scale model and a short design presentation.

Ying-chiu Chan (aka Chan the Man) started his Industrial Design career in the 80s. He has been running his design practice providing innovative solutions for Consumer Products, Electronics, Novelties, Toys, Displays and Exhibits, going through stages in Design Development from Concept Ideation Sketches & Renderings to Engineering Advices, Mock-ups, Models, Prototypes and Post-production Follow-up.

His designs are used by local and international clients such as Melitta, BCTel, Intrawest, St John Ambulance, BC Ferries, and more...
Chan began to contribute his experience to the design community in 1987 through teaching in the school he graduated (Hong Kong Polytechnic University) as a Visiting Lecturer. He has been instructing at Emily Carr since 1997.
