This course is a continuation of CEPN 162 Fundamentals of Oil Painting. Focus on your development, exploration and analysis of colour, composition, use of scale, subject matter, and technical processes. Throughout the course you will consider examples from contemporary and historical painting as an integral part in the discussions, critiques, and lectures.
My art practice focuses primarily on the construct of binary logic and explores its use as it appears in social practice. The work explores polar opposites as a means to confound the simplicity of hierarchical systems. I’m researching ways in which we perpetuate ideologies both visually and conceptually of binary hierarchies between good and evil.
I'm a practicing artist living Vancouver and was born in Moncton, New Brunswick. I'm currently working as a Technician at Emily Carr University and moonlight as a freelance graphic designer in the evening. I received a Diploma in fine art from Capilano College in 2001 and went on to complete my BFA at Emily Carr University in 2004 with my primary focus being painting. I also studied design on a government grant in Sapporo, Japan at BISEN College of Art and Design.
