CESE 110: Issues in Contemporary Design

This course examines a range of contemporary debates, themes and issues that affect designers including: 'wicked problems' in design; social responsibility; design thinking; architecture and urban planning; user-centered design; objects we think with; and many others. In addition to weekly readings and discussions, you will work in teams to address contemporary design challenges, moving from talking about design to the practical implications of developing design proposals. You will develop a greater awareness of ways in which design is connected to your everyday life.
