PNTG 271: Painting II

Continuation of Painting I. This course introduces concepts and techniques related to contemporary painting practices. Students develop an understanding of basic principles of painting, including how they have shifted historically, and apply this knowledge to their own work. Slides and/or video presentations related to the discussion of historical and contemporary painting issues are included. Students learn how to look at paintings and through discussion, how to formally and conceptually critique their own work and the work of others. Students gain an understanding of how different techniques fit different modes of expression and that the exploration of various strategies is at times necessary to have cohesive end results.
