Critical and Cultural Practices Major
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Critical + Cultural Practice allows those students engaged in writing and other textual productions to develop their studio practice while at the same time exploring the relationship of art history, theory, and criticism to their creative vision. Academic classes (Art History, Design History English, Humanities, Media History, Science and Social Sciences) make up half of the curriculum with the other half undertaken in studio. Emily Carr University's academic classes, designed with practice as their implied focus, bring modern and contemporary approaches to the creation of material and textual culture. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to chart their own path while fostering connections between theory and practice.
To qualify for entry, students must have a B average or 3.0 cumulative GPA in all their Foundation year of equivalent classes. Students who transfer into Second year must have 6 credits of transferable English and 6 credits of transferable Art History. Additionally they must have a minimum of 12 studio credits and 6 open electives. Students can opt for this degree at any point after first year once they have consulted with one of the Assistant Deans, Critical + Cultural Studies.
