Emily Carr Tuition Scholarships
The following tuition scholarships are available to first, second and third year students enrolled in 12 or more credits at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in the spring semester. Students ineligible for these scholarships include:
- fourth year students
- students on academic probation
- students with deferred graduation
Applications for Emily Carr Tuition Scholarships are made available in March of each spring term. Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA in order to be eligible to apply for scholarships. The current minimum GPA required for each area is as follows:
Foundation 3.0
Design 3.0
Media Arts 3.2
Fine Arts 3.2
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a student’s cumulative GPA on April 30th of each year after the submission of spring semester grades.
Awards are assessed within the applicant’s program area, meaning that a scholarship applicant will only be competing with students from his or her own program area. The amount of scholarship funding that is available is allocated equitably within each program area.
Tuition scholarships are awarded to students in the form of a tuition reduction in the following Fall and Spring semesters.
Following is a list of the scholarships awarded through the Emily Carr tuition scholarship process each year. Individual applications are not required for these awards.
GORDON ADASKIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This award, in an amount determined annually, is made available to a student who has demonstrated outstanding artistic ability.
EVANGELOS “ANGIE” APOSTOLIDES SCHOLARSHIP
This award, in an amount determined annually, is made available to an outstanding Photography student.
ALVIN BALKIND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Two scholarships, in the amount of $2,500 each, will be awarded to students displaying academic excellence in Visual Arts.
ALEXANDER HOLBURN BEAUDIN AND LANG SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship, in the amount of $1,000 annually, is awarded to a student enrolled in the Integrated Media Program.
KERRY BLACK SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, in the amount of $1,000 annually, is awarded to a student entering their third year of studies with a concentration in painting or ceramics.
W.G. BLACK MEMORIAL AWARD
A scholarship, in an amount determined annually, is made available to a student with a concentration in painting.
ELSIE BOONE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships, in amounts determined annually, are made available to students who have displayed outstanding artistic achievement.
TONI BORSCHNECK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship, in an amount determined annually, is presented to a student who has displayed outstanding artistic achievement.
BRUCE BOYD SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in recognition of Bruce Boyd, a former faculty member who served at Emily Carr University of Art + Design from 1948 until his retirement in 1986. This award is given to an undergraduate student who exhibits outstanding artistic achievement.
BRISSENDEN SCHOLARSHIPS
Two scholarships, in the amount of $1,500 each, are offered annually to students who have demonstrated promise in each of the fields of painting and sculpture. These scholarships are provided in memory of Pearley and Norine Brissenden.
JOHN DAVID CARR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

SIMON CHANG AWARD
A scholarship, in an amount determined annually, is made available to any third year student studying Communication Design who demonstrates both financial need and high scholastic standing. Simon Chang, a graduate of Emily Carr, is a leading designer in the Canadian fashion industry.
CHRISTOPHER FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Established in 1987 by Mr. John Feigl of Christopher Investments Ltd, twenty scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each are awarded annually to students who display outstanding artistic achievement.
CAROLINE VICTORIA COLDICUTT ART SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, in an amount determined annually, is made available to a student with who has demonstrated outstanding artistic merit.
EMILY CARR ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIPS
Through the Emily Carr scholarship process, the University offers eight Achievement Scholarships totalling $32,000 to students demonstrating the highest GPAs.
EMILY CARR BOARD OF GOVERNORS SCHOLARSHIP
This award, initiated in 1999, will be made available to a student who has displayed outstanding artistic merit.
FRIENDS OF EMILY CARR SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarships in amounts determined annually are made available by the Friends of Emily Carr and are awarded to students showing exceptional dedication and promise.
FRIENDS OF SCULPTURE AWARD
Scholarships in amounts determined annually are awarded to third year sculpture students and are based on artistic merit.
LINDA FRITZLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is awarded as a memorial to a former student of Emily Carr. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student who demonstrates artistic merit and a financial need.
HENRY BOYER de la GIRODAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This award, initiated in 1998, is made available to a student who has demonstrated artistic and academic achievement.
JASON GODDING MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This memorial scholarship, in memory of one of Emily Carr’s graduates, is made available to a student demonstrating outstanding artistic achievement.
MARY CATHERINE GORDON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A memorial scholarship, in an amount determined annually, is awarded to a student at the University who displays outstanding artistic talent and commitment.
JACK HARMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, in an amount determined annually, is made available to a student in the Visual Arts program.
HEMLOCK PRINTERS DESIGN SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship, in the amount of $1,000 annually, is awarded to a Design student who has demonstrated outstanding artistic achievement.
STEVEN JOHN HODGE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship, in an amount determined annually, is awarded to a student who has demonstrated artistic and academic merit.
TAMARISSA HOSKIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is awarded annually to a female student in the Photography program. This scholarship is awarded as a memorial to Tamarissa Hoskin, a former student at Emily Carr.
INDUSTRIAL DESIGN SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, established by the EJLB Foundation, is awarded to an exceptional student in Industrial Design.
ICAS COMPUTER ARTS AWARD
This award, in an amount determined annually, is made available to a student completing his or her third year of study.
AUDREY E. JANG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Audrey E. Jang Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by Elsie Jang in memory of her sister Audrey. The Audrey E. Jang Memorial Scholarship will be awarded each year to a student entering their third or fourth year in the Design Program.
LINDA JANITIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, established in 2006, will be awarded to an outstanding student in Visual Arts.
DON JARVIS SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in recognition of Don Jarvis, a former faculty member who served at Emily Carr University of Art + Design from 1949 until his retirement in 1986. This award is given to an undergraduate student who exhibits outstanding artistic achievement.
JOHN JORDAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship in an amount determined annually is awarded to a student in the Photography program. This scholarship is awarded in memory of John Jordan, a former student at the University who majored in Photography.
RUDY KOVACH SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship, in an amount determined annually is awarded to an outstanding student in the Design Program.
MINERVA FOUNDATION AWARD FOR BC WOMEN
The Minerva Foundation provides two annual scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each to women students who display academic proficiency and financial need.
MARION V. MURRAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship, in an amount determined annually, is awarded to a student who has demonstrated artistic achievement.
NORTH WEST CERAMICS FOUNDATION
This scholarship is made available to a Ceramics student entering their third or fourth year.
OCEAN CONSTRUCTION SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship in the amount of $500 annually is awarded to a student studying Industrial Design.
ANDREW OKSAKOVSKY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This memorial scholarship, established in 1986, is awarded annually to a deserving student who has displayed outstanding artistic merit.
STUART OLSON ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP
Two scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, are awarded annually to students who demonstrate outstanding artistic merit.
HELEN PITT BURSARY FUND AWARDS
Bursaries are awarded annually through the scholarship program to students demonstrating financial need as well as exhibiting outstanding artistic merit.
SOREN RASMUSSEN ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship, in the amount of $1,000 annually, is awarded to a student who demonstrates outstanding artistic merit.
MAISIE ANNE ROBERTSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This memorial scholarship is awarded annually to a student in Fine Arts who has displayed outstanding artistic merit
ABRAHAM ROGATNICK SCHOLARSHIP
Two scholarships, in the amount of $2,500 each, are awarded annually to students displaying academic excellence in the Industrial Design program.
BOB SCARABELLI SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, initiated in 2004, is made available to a student in the Media Arts area.
JACK AND DORIS SHADBOLT SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, in an amount determined annually, is made available to a talented student concentrating in painting.
GORDON AND MARION SMITH SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is made available to a Visual Arts student on the basis of artistic merit.
NORMA SORENSEN ARTISTS’ SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 2004, this scholarship will be awarded to a student concentrating in painting.
TAKAO TANABE SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 1985, this award is made available to a third or fourth year student concentrating in painting. The recipients are selected on the basis of artistic achievement.
UNIVERSITY WOMEN’S CLUB OF VANCOUVER SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, in an amount determined annually, is made available to a second or third year student who has displayed an outstanding level of artistic achievement.
THE BARBARA AND ARNE VENGSHOEL SCHOLARSHIP
This memorial scholarship, established in 2005, is awarded annually to a student demonstrating outstanding artistic achievement.
WEST VANCOUVER VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, in an amount determined annually, is made available to a painting student from North Vancouver or West Vancouver.
