Scott Mallory (Sessional Faculty, MFA '17) gave a talk at TEDxAbbotsford on September 23, 2017. In this artistic demonstration entitled "How to See Like an Artist" he talks about the power of rhythm across art forms like painting, music, filmmaking and virtual reality.

Urban Access to Aboriginal Art
In July 2014, history was made at Emily Carr when three generations of Leech women enrolled in the Urban Access to Aboriginal Art program. Violet (grandmother), Pam (mother) and Crystal (daughter) completed a four-week intensive program at Emily Carr’s Aboriginal Gathering Place, for a once in a lifetime cultural experience.
Klaudia Niwa | IDEA Art Award
When a jury selected third-year painting student Klaudia Niwa to receive the 2015 IDEA Art Award for her piece Adaptivity, she became the sixth artist to receive the honour (see gallery below). Klaudia also joined a prestigious list of artists, including Gordon Smith, Jack Shadbolt, Scott McFarland and Gathie Falk, with works in the VGH and UBC Hospital art collection of 1,500+ pieces.
Learning by Design - Emily Carr and Kenneth Gordon Maplewood students team up
Three learning communities - Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Kenneth Gordon Maplewood Elementary and Maplewood Alternative High School are celebrating five years of collaboration resulting in new approaches to teaching children with learning differences.
Leeway Resident Rachael Ashe To Host Draw Down in June
Paper artist Rachael Ashe began her residency in The Leeway studio this month and the former photographer is already making headway on her own project while preparing to host two studio events.
“It is a more dedicated day when I come into The Leeway,” says Ashe of her residency so far. “Even just three weeks in, I’ve gotten a lot done.”
Currently working on a project about pattern design, including Japanese textiles and Islamic designs from architecture, Rachael is hoping to put together an installation incorporating these patterns.
