With A Lily In Your Hand

This video is my first attempt at kinetic typography, and additionally, my first time using After Effects software. Choral music is seldom used for kinetic type, hence I wanted to grab the opportunity, particularly when I am involved in several choir communities.
With A Lily In Your Hand is a piece by Eric Whitacre, translated from a poem by Federico Garcia Lorca, and is performed by Polyphony. I selected this particular song because it carries a strong energy within it, yet is dynamic enough for experimentation. I hoped to capture the passion of the words and express not only their meaning, but the way the singers perform them as well.
Clean Hands for Health Campaign

A group project for Vancouver Coastal Health to increase hand washing compliance in hospitals for patients, visitors and staff. Our resultant campaign was often referred to as "the blue line campaign" although it covers many areas of the hospital. Our campaign was versatile and cost effective, and could easily accomodate more messaging.

Jonathan Aitken's background is graphic design. He studied as an undergraduate student at York University, in Toronto, where he was granted a BFA. He subsequently studied industrial design at the University of Alberta and attained an MVA. He owned and operated a graphic design studio, Pages Design Ltd, in Toronto for 15 years, where he was involved in designing and producing everything from corporate annual reports, web sites, identity programs and books to exhibit displays and signage. He has taught graphic and web design at Ryerson University for the last several years. His research/creative interests encompass the application of kinetic typography to various projects. His current project (involving a SSHRC Research/Creation grant in the Fine Arts) involves incorporating animated type into live performance, creating a believable "typographic character" that interacts naturally with live actors. He is currently on sabbatical from Ryerson University.

Isabelle is founder and creative director of Seven25. Design & Typography Inc., a Vancouver-based multidisciplinary consultancy with international experience focusing on work for not-for-profit and educational organizations. Isabelle worked for several years as a freelance book designer for publishers such as HarperCollins, Chronicle Book and Douglas & McIntyre, then broadened her practice in various boutique studios in France, England and Canada. Prior to forming Seven25 Isabelle honed her skills further working at Rethink, one of Canada’s leading advertising agencies.
Isabelle holds a Master’s Degree in Communication Design from the Royal College of Art and has been a sessional lecturer in the undergraduate design program at Emily Carr University since 2003. Her work has been recognized in national and international competitions, books and magazines. Isabelle is a professional member of the Association of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC), the AIGA and Women in Film & Television.

Brooke Allen is a graduate of Emily Carr, with a Bachelor of Design and a graduate from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design with a Master of Fine Arts in Design. She is a professional member of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada and has been teaching at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design since 2005 for both Undergrad Studies and the Continuing Studies Department.
