Call for Applications THE LEEWAY STUDIO RESIDENCY Spring Term: January - April 2015

Emily Carr Continuing Studies invites Emily Carr alumni (see Important Note below) to submit applications for a four (4) month Studio Residency in the Leeway.

The Leeway is a multi-disciplinary resourced studio space for artists and designers. It is a shared, open studio space suitable for those who are seeking to forge a sense of community while cultivating their creative practice and exploring new techniques and processes.

Artists and designers in The Leeway work alongside other makers and learn from experienced technicians and instructors through demonstrations and workshops.

Congratulations to alumnus Stan Douglas ('82), who was named the recipient of the Scotiabank Photography Award, which is given annually to Canadian contemporary photographer. In addition to a cash prize of $50,000, Douglas will have a solo exhibition at the CONTACT Photography Festival in Toronto next year, and a collection of Douglas’ work will be published internationally.

Bob Rennie, CEO of Rennie Marketing Systems, has a long history of supporting Emily Carr students and alumni. For nearly two decades, Bob has contributed to scholarships, awards, and research programs that benefit individual students and facilitate academic excellence.

Bob has also been very generous with his time. In 2010, he was appointed as a Director-at-Large for the Emily Carr Board of Governors, the body that manages, administers and directs the affairs of the University. Since then, he has advocated tirelessly for Emily Carr, even while he contributes his time to various other arts and culture organizations in Vancouver.

Thanks to a generous donation by Board of Governors member Bob Rennie, Emily Carr has established a fund created specifically to match donations made by university alumni. To announce and celebrate this new fund, Emily Carr has launched its first-ever Indiegogo campaign.  The campaign, called Match It Up, includes a video produced by Leah Nelson and Jay Grandin, Emily Carr alumni and founders of Giant Ant Media.

Two Emily Carr alumni made the long-list for the Aimia | AGO Photography Prize. Dan Siney (’04) and Jessica Eaton (’06) are among 14 finalists from around the world, including photographers from North and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe.
