Exit Arts: America For Sale

Exit Art presents a project of SEA (Social-Environmental Aesthetics), America for Sale is an exhibition of photography, sculpture, video, and installation that addresses America's spiralling national debt, struggling global economy, and the ramifications of its extravagant spending. The project features work by Sung Choi, Nicky Enright, Dominic Gagnon, Elaine Kaufmann, erin Ko, Jess Levey, Abby Manock, Jonathan Matas (06), Radical Art Initiative, Ryan Roth, TRIIIBE.

Emily Carr alumna Brenda Draney (MAA 09) received the distinguished $25,000 RBC Canadian Painting Competition award Wednesday, October 8, 2009 for her work, Aim is Important. The award for emerging artists, is one of the largest in Canada. The work of all 15 finalists is currently on exhibit at the Musee d'art contemporain, Montreal.

Emily Carr University of Art + Design is proud to announce that Judson Beaumont (85) and Robert Johnston (98) are recipients of the 2009 BC Creative Achievement Awards for furniture design, and industrial design, respectively.

The awards took place Monday, September 21, and were presented by Premier Gordon Campbell and Keith Mitchell, Chair, British Columbia Achievement Foundation (and former Emily Carr Board of Governor Chair).

Nelson's Museum of Art and History presentsROW:Reflections on Water which navigates our symbolic associations with water, such as renewal, the fountain of life and the unconscious. It does this by juxtaposing artifacts from the Touchstones Nelson permanent collection with the work of Julie Castonguay, Boukje Elzinga (95), Patrick Field, Marilyn James, Tanya Pixie Johnson, Destanne Norris, Karen Rice, Nancy Rosenblum.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of the University's dearest friends: Abraham Jedidiah Rogatnick.

Abraham Rogatnick's involvement with the Vancouver School of Art/Emily Carr University of Art + Design spans five decades. Upon arriving in Vancouver in the early 1950's Abraham, accompanied by Alvin Balkind, visited the Vancouver School of Art to determine how they might make contact with Vancouver artists.

VANOC are committed to showcasing and sharing extraordinary talent with the community. In keeping with this commitment, they have created an Artist Registry that will give them the opportunity to stay informed and in touch with diverse artists from across Canada and abroad.

By submitting information to the Artist Registry, individuals will be included in a centralized database that members and affiliates of VANOC can reference when programming events.
