Generation Green Awards | Application Deadline March 4

Vancouver Foundation has launched a special initiative--their new Generation Green Awards will provide 20 cash awards (up to $12,500) for environmental projects in Vancouver by young people (individuals or groups) aged 6 to 24. The awards are open to both individuals and groups for projects taking place in Vancouver.

The deadline to submit green ideas is March 4, 2011.

David Rimmer + Michael Morris to Receive 2011 Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts

Congratulations to former faculty member, David Rimmer and alumnus Michael Morris ('65 + '04 Honorary Doctorate of Humanities ), two of the eight recipients of the 2011 Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts announced in Toronto February 22, 2011.

Rimmer is known as one of Canada's foremost experimental filmmakers and creator of more than 40 films - from documentary, to dance, to music, to portraits of artists.

Painter, photographer, video and performance artist and curator, Morris founded the Image Bank with Vincent Trasov - a method for personal exchange between artists, and is a founding member of the Western Front Society.

The Caroline Victoria Coldicutt Arts Foundation is pleased to introduce the Caroline Victoria Rose for the Arts.  The CVCAF, a non-profit organization established in 2006 to celebrate the memory and artistic passion of Caroline Victoria Coldicutt, funds an annual art scholarship at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.  According to Elizabeth Wood Coldicutt, president of the CVCAF,  “Over 30% profit from the sale of each rose will go toward the Caroline Victoria Arts Scholarship at Emily Carr to help and assist student artists in need.”

The awards recognize BC business women who have made outstanding achievements in business, contributions to their industry and who influence those in the local business community.

RBC Donates $20,000 to Benefit Aboriginal Students

Emily Carr University of Art + Design is pleased to announce that RBC has committed $20,000 ($10,000 each year for the next two years) to provide urgently needed support for Aboriginal students at Emily Carr. 

A portion of the donation has been earmarked to establish the RBC Emerging Aboriginal Artist Award; the balance is allocated to the RBC Aboriginal Awards to help reduce the financial barriers that can prevent students from achieving their educational goals.

The Master of Applied Arts (MAA) professional degree prepares students to engage in the expanding fields of design, media and visual arts within the cultural and creative economies. These programs are designed to facilitate interaction between students and faculty in a supportive atmosphere of collaboration that encourages investigation of critical thinking in both traditional approaches and innovative, hybrid forms of production. While there are three streams of study, interdisciplinary practice is something that is both supported and encouraged within all areas of the program.

Emily Carr's Master of Applied Arts (MAA) program offers concentrated study in Design, Media and Visual Arts. Students can choose to study full-time or through our Low Residency Program, which consists of online courses and Summer Intensive residencies.
