The Vancouver Art Gallery is currently exhibiting Emily Carr and Landon Mackenzie: Wood Chopper and the Monkey. This major exhibition presents works from Professor Landon Mackenzie’s career, alongside a set of remarkable paintings by the iconic West Coast modernist Emily Carr (1871-1945), which Mackenzie has specifically selected.

Pratt Institute will host a two-day symposium, "Questioning Aesthetics," on Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20, 2014, to explore new transdisciplinary research in aesthetics and to celebrate the launch of the Encyclopedia of Aesthetics, 2nd edition published by Oxford University Press.

Amber Frid-Jimenez, Associate Professor at Emily Carr University, holds a Canada Research Chair in Design and is a contributor to the new edition. She will present her work on the aesthetics of data and machine learning on a panel with Christiane Paul (Whitney Museum), Boris Groys (NYU), and Christopher Sula (Pratt). Other symposium contributors include Chika Okeke-Agulu (Princeton), Mel Chin (North Carolina) and Eve Meltzer (NYU), among others.

James Lindfield Memorial

It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of James Lindfield on June 21st, from pneumonia. James will be remembered as a devoted father, passionate teacher, committed artist, and as a perceptive and loving husband, brother, uncle and friend.

We are stunned to have lost such a valuable member of our community, and our thoughts and best wishes are with his wife Sheila and son Jacob during this tragic time.
