Emily Carr collaborated with the University of British Columbia’s Centre for Advanced Wood Processing (CAWP) and The Wood Co-op Gallery on an Olympic project for Far Coast Coffee®.  Teams of students were asked to design and produce outdoor furniture (chairs and tables) manufactured from pine beetle wood to be used during the 2010 Winter Games.

TRIUMF, Canada’s National Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics, started its first Artist in Residence pilot program in the fall of 2009. Following the example of other scientific institutions, TRIUMF hopes to involve the laboratory as an inspirational and stimulating setting for student artists to connect to the fields of art and science through exploration, exchange of ideas and production of art work.

Faced with the challenge of creating the local marketing campaign for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver and Whistler, Visa wanted to embrace both the excitement of the games and the unique identity of the host region.

Numerous volunteer opportunities are available for Spirit of Place Projects, a community project proudly co-hosted by Emily Carr University of Art and Design. The exhibition takes place at Zodiac Square and the Chinese Cultural Centre Gallery located at 50 Pender Street, Vancouver  Chinatown from February 11 to February 28, 2010. Over the past three years, Spirit of Place Projects has engaged and provided education and insight for students interested in art education, national and international community involvement and the development of culture exchanges.

The Rennie Collection at the Wing Sang is proud to announce its inaugural exhibition, Mona Hatoum: Collected Works.

The Rennie Collection at the Wing Sang is a brand new gallery in Chinatown which opened in October 2009. The Wing Sang is one of the oldest buildings in Chinatown, and has been renovated to include a large exhibition space, which will exhibit work from the Rennie Collection, a renowned collection of international contemporary art. Interns from Emily Carr are working closely with the Collection as part of the new Wing Sang Internship Program.

Part-time, second year student, Elizabeth Boylan and her company VectorBloom Technologies, have ventured into the new frontier of programming and game development for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Elizabeth recently jumped onto this rapidly emerging business model of designing and developing 'Apps' for the iPhone and iPod Touch to be sold on the iTunes Store.

WEIGHT, a short film written and directed by 3rd year film/video student Kevan Funk, will be showcased at the 28th Annual Vancouver International Film Festival. Created with fellow 3rd year students Benjamin Loeb and Dustin Wadsworth, WEIGHT will be screened as a part of 'Roadwork Ahead' shorts program.

Showtimes: October 12th @ 9:15pm & October 13th @ 4:00pm at Pacific Cinematheque.

For the third year, BC Hydro is pleased to announce the successful youth-driven online sustainability contest: Invent the Future. This contest is for youth aged 18 to 24* and is an ideal platform to get youth involved in actively shaping the future of their planet.

Youth are concerned about energy conservation; they believe it is important to them and to their future.  The contest inspires youth to take action and to recognize the strength of their voice. 

Corporate Images Holdings Partnership invites Industrial Design students to submit their furniture designs for a chance to win a $1,000 award. The competition ends December 4, 2009.
