Granville Island Tangrams

description

Granville Island is a cultural ecosystem that houses commercial, industrial, and habitual spaces. For this project we were asked to rethink this cultural ecosystem or system that has been branded and imbedded within the island’s identity. “How can we redefine Granville Island in a way that was personal, interpersonal or broadly cultural?”   The goal was to create a new identity for Granville Island that will transform its current cultural standing with an investigation of its previously stapled one.

kolding ecosystems

video

description

Kolding Ecosystems was designed during the two-week, by-invitation only DesignCamp2013 at the Design School of Kolding in Denmark. Sixty students from around the world were partnered with Danish companies to work on current issues.

In order to communicate the value and importance of the civic service that Kolding Waste Water provides, we redefined the company's service streams and changed the company's name to kolding okosystemer (kolding ecosystems) as part of a corporate identity rebrand to reflect the fact that the company is in the business of living systems: recycling water and organic materials for the protection of public health and the environment. Waste water is the material they work with, not what they do.

Chemical Mama

video

description

Chemical Mama is Lindsay Hoy's undergraduate thesis project; it involved rigorous research, usability testing, concept mapping, and prototyping to create the final deliverables and exhibit space for the 2013 grad show.

The project itself is about providing expecting mothers and new parents with both the knowledge and tools to make more informed choices regarding personal care products and the health of both themselves and their babies. The starting point of this project came from the realization that 90% of personal care product are chalked full of synthetic chemical ingredients that can be potentially harmful to health over long-term exposure. Immunotoxicity, neurotoxicity, and reproductive damage are but a few of the major concerns.

Urban Gardens Vancouver

description

My area of interest for this project is urban agriculture. This year, I found an interest in gardening and started my own. I got a real satisfaction watching my produces grow. I noticed that community gardens are becoming more and more popular due to the high density of the city and the high cost of living. In my research, I found out that in 2006, the Vancouver City Council issued a challenge to establish more food producing gardens. At that time, the challenge was to have 2010 garden plots by 2010 Olympic. Not only was this challenge met, but also at the beginning of 2010, the expectation was exceeded. Vancouver next challenge is to build 5000 plots by 2020 as part of its strategy to become the world’s greenest city.

VIFF 2011: Rebranding

images

description

This project was done in 2011 for an advanced typography class. The objective of the project was to create a theoreticall rebranding for that years Vancouver International Film Festival. I focused on a theme of distortion to inform my brand and visual choices. The logo it's self was created by manually augmenting a print out of the logo by shifting it while it was being rescanned into the computer. After several attempts I was left with a wordmark that quickly became the backbone of my rebranding. In the end I applied the brand across a range of deliverables, including: a bus shelter ad, stationary, a post card and business card.
