BEYOND PINTEREST

description

This project aims to celebrate and take a look beyond the beautiful imagery of the social media site Pinterest, and give the Photographers and Artists creating the featured imagery some attention. There has been a lot of discussion surrounding the grey area of posting other peoples intellectual property on Pinterest without giving proper credit. Even though one of the main aspects of Pinterest is the ability to go to the original source of the media, Pinterest users or “Pinners” rarely check the links connected to the images they see in their news feed.

Gordon's Park Eco Resort is a unique outdoor destination and dark sky preserve on Manitoulin Island in Tehkummak Ontario. Offering wilderness campsites, astronomy, bird watching, wildlife viewing, star parties, summertime calendar of events and much more.

This project was an event campaign for Gordon's Park's event "Meteors, Northern Lights and the Heavens Above". The concept designed for this event was "A Different Kind of Dark", contrasting the night sky of urban cities with the unparalled dark sky of Gordon's Park. Collateral included posters, handbills, mail-out invitations and window decals/installations.

Type Weave

description

Typography is like fabric. It is the weaving in and out of various typefaces, weight, and spacing, to essentially form aesthetically pleasing and legible content, let it be display or body texts.

"Type Weave" is a self-directed project, which uses a metaphorical approach to help us understand the characteristics of some common typefaces. A type of fabric is juxtaposed with a typeface based on similar characteristics and attitude.

Brazil on the Rise

description

A publication designed to share the beauty and growth of one of the biggest countries in the world, while contrasting it with the sad reality of the favelas slums. The cover plays off the idea of Brazil as being trypically associated with the Amazon forest, and how in fact, it is now composed of huge ‘urban jungles’. The text was taken from the book Brazil on the Rise, by Larry Rohter. The typographic and layout choice supports the portrayal of Brazil as a modern country, while allowing the photos to really stand out.

Cerebration: A Critical Thinking Guide for Communication Designers

description

A senior project aimed at helping emerging designers strengthen their research and critical thinking skills. The book contains relevant information and methods which can be applied throughout the different phases of the design process. The visual style and language were chosen to communicate to design students and recent graduates. A website was also created to present the methods of the book in a more interactive and straight-forward way.

If you are interested in learning more about my thinking & design process for this project, please take a look at the PDF attached to this page.
