Momentum

description

Momentum is a magazine for contemporary dancers.

My rationale behind this publication is that it is made with sincerity, simple clarity and the idea of storytelling. Dancers who have the passion to learn from others, lead a healthy life and explore the their community can gain insight from this publication.

This ebook design is a group project in collaboration with the Museum of Vancouver to create an ebook for its Bhangra.me exhibit that runs from May 5th, 2011 until January 1st, 2012.

Quoting Museum of Vancouver, "Bhangra is a Punjabi folk dance and music that combines lyrical couplets, a strong dhol drum beat, and flowing, graceful movements. Mesosphere

video

description

Mixing dance and technology, Mesosphere connects movement with Kinect images in a performance piece with an interactive edge.

The Mesosphere performance is an abstract investigation into the process of loss. A dancer moves through a landscape of projected trees, clouds, and pixelating images that respond to her movements. Melodic vibraphone music strikes a balance between a reflective dreamstate and a crying out of layered tones. The internal narrative of the performer evokes a feeling of loss restored through forgiveness with a freeing of self.

After the performance, audience members are invited to play in the interactive image environment. Mesosphere is performed one night only on September 9, 2011 in the downstairs multimedia room at the Waldorf Hotel.

Scarves blow in the wind like prayer flags with messages of remembrance and calls to end violence against women. At a remembrance ceremony on December 6th, 2009 in Vancouver, women and men literally wear their hearts on their sleeves to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre at L'Eole Polytechnique as well as to remember women and children murdered everywhere. Along with a fellow classmate, we made a prototype of Sound Sleeves, an interactive, wearable beat system. Using simple sensor technology from the LEGO Mindstorm Kit, we aimed to converge natural dance movements with live musical beats.

Hairy Lumps: An Interdimensional Allegory

video

description

Dance Troupe Practice is a movement collective whose interest lies in experimentation and exploration of the border zones between dance and life. Our practice has lead to the creation of several performances including movement, text, live sound, and video; and DTP continues to create a steady out-put of unique, raw and challenging material.

This piece is from a collaboration with a theatre group called "the cycling club." This is an excerpt of a 20 min performance based on string theory. This video was edited by Mirae Rosner -a DTP founder and mover-extraordinaire.
