Vaartus

description

Väärtus is about value and pride. Arthritis is a problem occurring with our aging population; the need for medical aids to perform everyday tasks is apparent. Current assistive devices are clumsy, undependable, impermanent, poorly made, unhelpful and ugly. People who require aids don’t want to use them. Vaartus is the opportunity to bridge the gap between what is currently available and the demand set out by a modern aging audience seeking value and independence.

Books I have made

images

description

Examples of several books I have made recently. The trip books have screen printed covers, the contents are typewriter text and in some, photocopies of photos from travels throughout the United States. I like to bring elements of zine aesthetic into my book work and I always enjoy placing emphasis on the handmade, despite my knowledge of Photoshop and other computer programs for making book layout and design. In a lot of these projects the process of building and planning a book by hand is in itself a big part of the work. As such, these books are unique records of the experience of the artist, as well as the process of recording that experience - and the transformation that occurs when personal moments, memories and knowledge are preserved on the page and then revealed to others.

Current Design Research Journal

description

I wrote an article and guest edited ECUAD's inaugural issue of Current Design Research Journal. My focus in research relates to human-centered process and a posture of co-design when working with communities who are often overlooked or misrepresented in design activities.
