Sound Activated Men
This piece consists of six sound activated machines that move forward and backward within a four foot span. The performance begins with the methodical placement of each of the six machines on the circumference of a circle, all pointing towards the centre. I then lie in the centre of the circle. After a moment I begin to make soft, low sounds with my voice; the machines do not react. Then, as I rise to my knees, the sounds I make become higher and louder, and one or two of the machines begin to move. Next, I stand, making loud, high sounds. All the machines begin to move toward me and then away, the orderly circle breaking down in a mechanical chaos.
