An element of my practice over the years has been demystifying electronics.
I have created and taught electronic workshops in addition to a university/
college course entitled Creative Electronics since 1997
.
The focus of the workshop can be an introduction to media practice
or an introduction to the integration of interactivity into an established
practice. The workshop presents the switch as the basic interface or
sensor. The wiring, building and application of momentary, mercury,
and relays devices is addressed. Next, instruction on identification
of electronic components, reading schematic diagrams and soldering
is provided to enable the workshop participant to create a light activated
switch. Workshops of longer length also familiarize participants with
the building and use of timers, amplifiers and motor controllers. I
teach electronics with a folk art philosophy using easily accessible
information and materials.
