Bio
Duane Elverum is a faculty member at Emily Carr Institute where
he teaches sustainable systems, industrial design, green design,
architecture and furniture design. He has an honours degree in architecture
from the University of British Columbia, and since 1992 has operated
Delve Design Studio in Vancouver.
From
1995-2000 he taught at the UBC School of Architecture where he supervised
the program for Studies in Design + Making, which received two North
American awards for design studio curriculum. During that time,
he supervised studies abroad to Germany and the Czech Republic and
was a guest critic at the TU in Dresden.
Recently,
he curated an exhibition and wrote the accompanying monograph entitled
Towards an Architecture of Conscience: The Work of Sandy Hirshen.
This exhibition opened last fall in Vancouver and is currently on
tour throughout North America.
He
writes and speaks on the Ethics of Design, Architecture and Other
Built Environments as well as Emerging Issues in Sustainability,
and this fall will speak during VAG's Massive Change exhibition
in the Philosopher's Cafe series on the Future of Design.
