DIGICEL FLIPBOOK

Before you begin to use the line-testing software, you should make a directory in "Save Here" to keep the various Flipbook projects that you create.

To start up FlipBook, refer to the computer Desktop and double-click the FlipBook shortcut icon.  Alternatively, you can go to the Start Menu > Programs > DigiCel FlipBook.

Basic Operation for line-testing

From the DigiCel FlipBook start-up window, choose "Create New Scene" (or "Open Existing Scene" if you want to return to a project).  For "New Scene," select the following:

  • Screen Size:
    • Quarter (320 x 240)
    • Standard (640 x 480)
    • NTSC (720 x 540)
    • Choose one (e.g., 720 x 540).  Each dimension has a purpose.
  • Playback Speed:
    • Frame Rate = 24
  • X Sheet:
    • # of Levels = Enter a value
    • # of Frames = Enter a value
    • OverScan: Choose 100% (default)

Click on "Capture" (which, referring to the Toolbar, is the "copystand" icon, located between the "thumb" and the "scanner" icons).  From the Video Capture Settings, choose the following:

  • Under "Options," go to Source.  Input should be set at "Video Composite In" and Output should be "Video Decoder Out."  Press Apply and then OK.
  • To select B + W over Colour, click the "Colour Mode" button in the Toolbar (in-between the "scanner" and the "animation disk" icons).  To change these settings, you will have to exit the Video Capture Mode by pressing Cancel first.
  • You can adust Image Processing (White or Gamma) but doing so will change the image to B + W.
  • You can also adjust Position and Label (Frame, Level, Hold, Label).  Choose "2" for double-frame animation.

To shoot an image, click the Capture Button or hit the Enter Key on the keyboard.  When you've finished shooting your animation drawings, click Cancel or Quit.

Playback buttons include:

  • First Frame
  • Play in Reverse
  • Step Back
  • Pause
  • Step Forward
  • Play Forward
  • Last Frame
  • Loop Playback

  • Decrease Rate

  • There is also a frame slider, to scrub through images.

To export an AVI movie

Referring to the main menu, go to File > Export > AVI.  From there, an Export AVI dialogue window will open.  You should then select the following under "Movie Contents:"

  • Start Frame = Enter a value (e.g., the first frame or "1")
  • End Frame = Enter a value (e.g., the last frame)
  • Start Level = Enter a value
  • End Level = Enter a value
  • Frame Rate = 24 FPS
  • Screen Size: We can adjust the size if necessary, to 320 x 240 for example.
  • CODEC: Clicking the Codec button will call up a Video Compression dialogue box; choose "Full Frame -- Uncompressed."
  • Save in > Your folder in the Save Here disk.
  • File name: Give the movie a short name.
  • Save as type: AVI (the default format).
  • Press Save.
To exit the Export AVI window, press OK or Cancel.
