LOG-IN PROCEDURES (Windows)

To "Map the Network Drive"

First, go to the main icon that identifies the computer you are working at.  You can find the icon at the top left-hand corner of the computer screen.  You should then "right click" the icon, but following this step, you should "left click" with the mouse.  Scroll to Map Network Drive and enter the following (you will be able to connect to three volumes available to students):

  • Your Private Volume: \\netfiles.edu.eciad.ca\Your User Name
  • Public: \\netfiles.edu.eciad.ca\Public
  • Drop boxes: \\netfiles.edu.eciad.ca\Dropboxes

For example, to connect to your network space, under "Path" type:

  • \\netfiles.edu.eciad.ca \ your user name

and then press OK.

Note: both Windows & Mac computers on campus will have simple access to these addresses, so that you will only have to worry about entering your username.

The Enter Network Password dialogue box will then appear, after which you should do the following:

  • Connect As: Type your user name
  • Password: Enter your password
  • Press OK

To Disconnect the Network Drive

Go to the computer' s icon in the top left corner of the screen and "right click." After this step, you should "left click" with the mouse from now on. Scroll to Disconnect Network Drive and then:

  • Select the drive you would like to log off.
  • Press OK.

TO concluDE your work session

  • Go to Start > Shut Down
  • Choose “Close all programs and log on as a different user”
  • Press OK

TO LOG ONTO THE NETWORK FROM A MACINTOSH COMPUTER ON CAMPUS

Referring to the Main Menu in the Finder, locate Go> Connect to Server.  The following addresses will mount the three volumes available to students:

  • Your Private Volume: smb://netfiles.edu.eciad.ca/Your User Name
  • Public: smb://netfiles.edu.eciad.ca/Public
  • Drop boxes: smb://netfiles.edu.eciad.ca/Dropboxes
