Intersections of Art + Design
Intersections is the thematic focus of this course. It is a line of inquiry dedicated to discovering and revealing the interdisciplinary space created by the intersections of art, design and media practice. Social, cultural and technological factors provide the provoking dimensions for discussing the character and implications of disciplinary cross-fertilization and interaction. We will discuss and explore new forms of research and creative endeavour and will challenge conventional boundaries and definitions of contemporary art and design practice. |

Interdisciplinarityis not just about mixing different disciplines and coming up with something new. It is about finding the measure of all disciplines, respecting the history of every discipline and looking for the connections between ideas. Disciplines should never prevent creative people from seeking to connect with other areas. At their most restrictive, traditional disciplines tend to exclude their links to other fields of study and suffer the consequences of not growing and developing as a result of this short-sidedness. At its best, interdisciplinarity brings people together and leads to new ideas, discoveries and innovations. |
