COURSE OUTLINE (AHIS 333)
September 9, 2004 Introduction: Ron Burnett/Alan Boykiw We will discuss the course content, as well as the organization of the course. As well, we will talk about the nature of Interdisciplinarity and the role of various disciplines in defining Art and Design. The role of history and how historical concepts develop, sustain themselves and become the basis upon which disciplines develop and sometimes stagnate will also be explored. "As Dan Sperber points out some interdisciplinary work results in challenges - sometimes radical ones - to one or several of the disciplines involved. But that is how innovation in science [and the arts] emerges. What are the relationships between interdisciplinarity and innovation? Is every innovative program necessarily interdisciplinary? Is innovation a fundamental criterion to understand and to assess interdisciplinary research?" [click here for reference] |
