binary thinking for beginners only

read carefully, think later

Cubricus is said to have come to Jerusalem at the time of the apostles. He propounded a dualistic doctrine which, according to Ephiphanus, was concerned with pairs of opposites: “white and black, yellow and green, moist and dry, heaven and earth, night and day, soul and body, good and evil, right and wrong.” From these books Cubricus concocted his pernicious heresy which poised the nations. “Cubricus” is very like the alchemical Kybrius, Kybrig, Cybrig and so on. In Arabic kibrit means sulphur. Sulphur is red and smelly and is related to devil.

After reading this paragraph from C.G. Jung’s final book “Mysterium Coniunctionis”, one feels a strange relationship between kibrit and cyber. Both are conceived of opposites/binaries and malevolence. If you think twice (another double), you will certainly be shocked by the notion that division between things has very old roots. As you read these words, didn’t you notice that this text is made out of binaries? V.Sager

A quick interview with Marcel D.

Hello Marcel. What do you think about binaries?

Hi Vjeko, I think you are right. Cubricus was wrong.

I don't get it. Will you explain why am I right and he is wrong?

Things are simple. I play chess and smoke cigar at the same time. That's multitasking. You look at this picture and imagine talking to me . That's binary.

Oh, now I understand. Thanks Marcel.

No problem, anytime.

Thanks again.

No problem.

OK.

Experimental drawing

is sketching for yourself to generate ideas. It is entirely different from representational drawing, which is drawing to communicate your ideas to someone else...

Actually, this is not a blog.

The materia is visible to all eyes, the whole world sees it, touches it, loves it and yet no one knows it.This blog is therefore not a blog.

Old Romans believed the name carries a destiny... in German "die Säge" means "the saw". So, my last name means "one who saws" ?

Smart browsing , eh...?

Internet may cause a “ browsing syndrome" ?

Browsing Internet may be similar to hunting or gathering. Viewers are invited to track marks and signs (by clicking various buttons) using their personal affinities. Every browsing path depends on momentary decision, creating each time a unique maze of corridors. A blend of responses may form a Minotaur's maze in user's mind. Remember: visual sensations and decision-making are directly linked to primordial/survival strategies. For example, red button could be an invitation to follow the hunter's instinct and blue button could be interpreted as rest, or something like a gatherer's dream. it's time to pick your pill ?

drawing + philosophy

The way of objective reflection makes the subject accidental, and thereby transforms existence into something indifferent, something vanishing. Away from the subject the objective way of reflection leads to the objective truth, and while the subject and his subjectivity become indifferent, the truth also becomes indifferent, and this indifference is precisely its objective validity; for all interest, like all decisiveness, is rooted in subjectivity. The way of objective reflection leads to abstract thoughts, to mathematics, to historical knowledge of different kinds; and always it leads away from the subject, whose existence or non-existence, and rightly so, becomes infinitely indifferent.

Drawing the future?

<< take a look and compare first and second image. Both are depicting the same event- female drawing a male. First one is based on Greek legend on "origin of drawing" (drawing the shadow of a lover to keep his image); a second is drawing experiment using multiple senses.

Eye-motion sketching

<< take a look the eye's trace during perception (dark line) and free-eye drawing (light line) based on the photograph. Drawing is made by the eye-tracking software.

Drawing has the ability to question, translate and process ideas. Even more, it has capacity to merge with every medium, without loosing its power. Drawing has a strong present and bright future, as the most reliable thinking tool. Drawing will change the way we perceive things, and the way we think about art.Our responsibility is to maintain the freshness of this medium, by permanently testing and verifying its potential.

DNA? Or not DNA?

On the left side are examples of merging traditional drawing with recent technology: digital, DNA and GPS technology is juxtaposed with "analog" or non-digital way of expression.

Drawing creates a closed circuit of thinking, from ideation to production.

Take a dot for a walk.

Compare Paul Klee's drawing and GPS-generated work of art. Both works are about "taking a line for a walk". Klee's analog thinking created a super-sensitive linear expression; GPS devices mapped our habits and movements through the city.

Unexpected re-sources and methods could generate new visual poetry. When we put a line on the page, it is an imperative to test various materials and techniques and surprise yourself.
