ECU Social Media Guidelines

ECU social media accounts are a way for members of the Emily Carr community to connect with their peers, learn about university-related news and events, and share useful information.

@emilycarru is the official handle of ECU’s social media channels on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn. You can also find our video content on YouTube.

Account monitoring

These accounts are curated and moderated by the Communications + Marketing team and are the only official channels of university communications via social media.

Accounts are monitored between 9AM-4PM, Monday to Friday. We make every effort to reply to your comments and DMs during these hours, and will direct you to the appropriate resource or staff member as best we can. We do not reply to DMs or comments on weekends or holidays.

Content curation

Content shared on Emily Carr’s social media channels includes the university’s news and events, opportunities (job, volunteer, official contests or promotion), and the work of our students, staff, faculty and alumni.

In support of the university’s commitment to core values of equity diversity, and inclusion, we aim to ensure that the content we share, especially that of student work, is reflective of the multiplicity of perspectives and lived experiences of our community.

The aim to uplift marginalized voices to combat the obstacles faced by, but not limited to, women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, members of a visible minority and racialized groups, and members of LGBTQ2+ communities, informs the content we share.

Maintaining a respectful environment

The university has policies and procedures in place to help ensure that our community members observe the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity in fulfilling their duties. We expect students, staff and faculty to behave in a manner that is respectful, equitable and inclusive. Discrimination, harassment and bullying will not be tolerated at Emily Carr.

Moderation of social media channels

Standards of conduct outlined in university policies extend to online conduct. Comments that contravene university policies will be removed, and the user may be banned from posting without notice.

Other reasons for comment removal include:

  • Personal attacks on the author, subject, or person(s)
  • Hateful speech
  • Promotion of drug/alcohol use
  • Commercial purposes
  • Extreme tangent from the topic
  • Spam (posting multiple times)
