Introductory Metal Sculpture (CESC 180)

Explore the fundamental concepts, materials, processes and techniques of contemporary metal sculpture. This course will cover the proper use of hand tools, stationary equipment and MIG/oxyacetylene welding. You will learn general shop and equipment safety, techniques for material characteristics, how to cut, shape and join metals, and project work flow. All consumables, including gasses, welding/brazing rod, and fabrication materials will be supplied for in-class assignments. All projects must be vetted and approved by the instructor. Attending the course's first session is mandatory due to necessary studio safety orientation.

Instructional Hours: 32 hours (8 classes, 4 hours per class)

Additional Hours: up to 24 hours for independent study and practice, assignment completion and homework.
