A step-by-step guide to applying to ECU.

Interested in applying to undergraduate programs at ECU? Follow these steps to understand the requirements and submission process.

Before you begin, please note:

  • You may only submit one application per intake. If you are applying to first-year, you will be asked to specify a second-choice program in your application. Unless specifically directed otherwise, all applications require a portfolio.
  • All steps must be completed in the order listed below prior to the application deadline for your application to be reviewed. Late applications are not accepted.

Step 1: Decide which program you would like to apply for.

Some things to note:

  • All students participate in Foundation Studies in their first year, regardless of their program selection. Foundation Studies is not a separate program.
  • A limited number of seats are available for students to be admitted without selecting a preferred program (Undeclared). Students who apply and are accepted as Undeclared apply to a first- and second-choice program during the second term of their Foundation Year. Admission is based on GPA and availability of seats in the program. There is no guarantee of acceptance into a major of choice when applying to a major entering second year.

Step 2: Decide which intake you would like to apply to.

ECU has three intakes per year. Explore the information about each intake below.

Some things to note:

  • Prospective students applying to either Spring or Summer must have already graduated high school.
  • For the Spring intake, 2nd and 3rd year transfers are only considered for Visual Arts.
  • For the Summer intake, no 2nd or 3rd year transfer applications are accepted.
Spring 2024 Intake Details and Deadlines.

Who is this typically for?

1st year applicants who have completed their high school studies/have graduated, transfer applicants from other universities.

  • September 15th - Applications open for the Spring 2024 intake.
  • October 15th - The deadline to apply, submit a portfolio + documents, including your proof of high school graduation.
  • Mid-November - Admissions decisions will be sent out. After Admissions decisions have been sent out, and before the semester starts, successful applicants are expected to submit any outstanding official documents.
  • Students applying to First year will be starting their degree in the second semester. Due to core course availability, this can mean that students who start their studies in Spring take longer to complete their degree.
Fall 2024 Intake Details and Deadlines.

Who is this typically for?

1st year applicants who are still completing their final year of high school or those who have already graduated. Transfer, deferral, and re-admitted students.

  • September 15th - Applications open for the Fall 2024 intake.
  • January 15th - The deadline to apply, submit a portfolio + all documents.
  • Mid-April - Admissions decisions are sent out.
  • May 1 - Deadline for successful applicants to pay their deposits to indicate their offer acceptance.
  • August 1st – Submission deadline for official final transcripts and other required documents
Summer 2024 Intake Details and Deadlines.

Who is this typically for?

The Summer Foundation (Concentrated) Program is tailored for students who have already graduated from high school and are interested in fast-tracking the first year of their undergraduate studies. Students will be able to choose from one of the following three streams: Visual Arts, Media Arts, or Design. Read more on the program page.

  • September 15th - Applications for the 2024 Summer intake open.
  • March 1st - Deadline to apply, submit a portfolio + all documents.
  • Mid-April - Admissions decisions are sent.
  • Before the semester starts, successful applicants are expected to submit any outstanding official documents.

Step 4: Apply and submit your portfolio & supporting documents.

After submitting your application through Education Planner BC, you will receive an email confirmation with a reference number. Once you have your reference number, head to SlideRoom to submit your portfolio and supporting documents.
