NEVER STEADY, NEVER STILL, the feature film debut of Kathleen Hepburn, is a tender and heartbreaking story of a physically disabled mother and discontent son - each alienated from their world and struggling to manage in the face of grief, guilt and chronic disease.

Kathleen Hepburn is a Vancouver born writer and director whose debut feature, NEVER STEADY, NEVER STILL, which Variety Magazine calls a "stoically broken hearted debut," premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017 and was awarded Best Canadian Film and Best Director by the Vancouver Film Critic’s Circle, as well as Special Jury Prize at the Dublin International Film Festival. It went on to be nominated for eight Canadian Screen Awards including Best Picture. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing, and a BFA in Film Production from the Universities of Guelph and Simon Fraser respectively. Her sophomore feature THE BODY REMEMBERS WHEN THE WORLD BROKE OPEN, co-written and co-directed by Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers will premiere at Berlinale in 2019.

Join us for the film screening + director talk by Kathleen Hepburn.

This event is part of The Time, Light + Sound Series 2019 spring schedule of guest artists. Curator Lorelei Pepi has crafted a special focus on the theme of “Collaborative Spirit” which suffuses much of this semester’s line-up. Artists are capable of astounding acts of creativity, and their ideas and energies are often amplified and transformed when working in crews, ensembles and collectives.
