Jordan Baraniecki has been paying attention to the quietness of Emily Carr University. With his new installation Swarm No. 4, he considers this a time to create at a grand scale. From a larger series, Swarm No. 4 is his larger project to date. Quite simply, the project consists of paper, thread and pins, which have been secured to the walls but suspended in the space between the two walls. This project intially came from the work he did in Poland back in 2018 when he wanted to fit everything back into his suitcase. This way of working has now informed an installation-based project that continues to grow, known as the Swarm Series.

With a strong interest in Metaphysics, Jordan considers what the spaces we cannot see look like. His work acts as a place-marker for such observations but also mimics the swarms that occur in nature. Whether that be bats, wasps, or flocks of birds, this observation is open to interpretation.

Jordan is hoping that with the stillness of "place", such as semi-closed universities, that there can be a different kind of read to an installation at a grand scale. He hopes that the viewers who can still walk through the university are able to think about what their own place in the space from a contemplative point of view. Thinking about the installation is important and thinking about one's own place within the space is a very close second.

This installation will be up until the end of February.
