Continuing Studies Instructor - Print Media + Book Arts


Continuing Studies Department at Emily Carr University of Art + Design is seeking an experienced instructor to teach CETP 108 Summer Institute for Teens Print Media + Book Arts, a 4-week course (total 90 hours). This course runs July 2 – 26, 2019, 9am – 4pm. $65/hour.


Course Description:

Explore the medium of printmaking while developing your studio skills in a communal environment. You will learn the fundamental techniques of producing monochromatic and multi-colour prints through a variety of processes while engaging with the medium of printmaking in context of contemporary art and popular culture. Additionally, you will learn binding and folding techniques to explore the possibilities of the artist book. Through print media you will be encouraged to manipulate narrative and sequence to challenge how the book can be constructed and circulated.

Position Qualifications:

Individuals should have a master’s degree and professional experience in Printmaking, book arts or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience as well as demonstrated passion for and excellence in teaching at a post-secondary level. We are seeking candidates offering the following skills:

1. Knowledge in professional print making and bookmaking, with experience in various printmaking and bookmaking materials, media and approaches
2. Experience working with youth aged 16 – 18 in an educational capacity
3. Demonstrable experience with contemporary print making and book arts industry
4. Experience developing concept, engaging in diverse creative processes and realizing a final product
5. Diverse knowledge in critiquing strategies and student engagement
6. Post-secondary teaching experience an asset
7. Strong team, organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and Adobe Creative Cloud
9. Presentation skills with the use of Keynote or Microsoft PowerPoint and a projector
