COVID-19 Information for Continuing Studies

ECU's plan for a gradual return to campus is informed by our commitment to health and safety, quality teaching and learning, and access to education. We want to continue to provide Continuing Studies students with flexibility, variety, and choice as you further your education with us.

With these principles in mind, Continuing Studies will be offering options for both in-person instruction and online-only courses. To see whether a course you are interested in will be in-person vs online, please select your section of choice on our website.

Remember to do a daily self health check using the BC COVID-19 self-assessment before coming to campus. If you do not feel comfortable taking an in-person class yet, check out our online courses.

Info for CS Students

Will the User Experience (UX) Design program be in-person or online?

Starting with the Spring 2022 cohort, the User Experience (UX) Design program will return to campus with opportunities for hybrid learning.

Will the Communication Design Essentials program be in-person or online?

For the Spring 2022 term:

    • BCIT courses will resume in-person learning.

    • ECU courses will be offered online; students are welcome to access resources and services on campus, such as the library, computer lab B1110 during their scheduled course time, and other campus facilities.

    What can I expect from an online course?

    Online courses will involve synchronous learning (where the whole class is present at the same time), asynchronous learning (where you engage in learning activities at your own pace), or a combination of both. The format of a particular course will depend on how the instructor has designed the online learning experience to most effectively teach the content and engage students.

    Please login to your myEC account to view your registration information. Courses will be conducted using Moodle (our Learning Management System) and Zoom. Instructors may include other commonly used technologies to enrich your class learning experience and will inform you of these during the course.

    Can I continue and finish my part-time certificate program online?

    CS will continue to offer options for online learning. Please check our website for updates and subscribe to our CS newsletter.

    Will Teen Programs be available online or in-person?

    Over the years, the Teen Programs you have gotten to know will resume in-person learning. In addition, we will have online courses available, so young people across B.C., Canada, and abroad can continue to learn with us!

    Info for CS Instructors

    What resources are available to me while teaching on campus?

    As the latest public health guidelines inform ECU, view the latest campus building hours here and the campus map to access the following resources and services available to you:

    Library

    Librarians can help with your inquiries by email Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm. View details on the Library website when in-person access is available.

    Food + Refreshments

    With your ECU OneCard, access the ECU Staff Room (C2270) supplied with a refrigerator, microwave and spacious seating and lounge areas available for your use while on campus. Vending machines and water fountains are available throughout the campus. The Caf (Level 2) is currently open to all.

    Kafka’s Coffee and Nemesis Coffee are steps away from the ECU building.

    Photocopying, Printing + Mail

    Using your ECU OneCard, access the Mail Room (C2272) to check the “CS Instructor” mail slot for any packages left for you. To use the photocopier/printer, please read the instructions posted in the Mail Room.

    Personal Storage + First Floor Lockers

    Store your personal items during class in a first-floor locker. Booking requests can be made directly to facilities@ecuad.ca.

    Technical Services Support

    Contact cstechs@ecuad.ca (Full-time or Part-time adult courses and programs) or teenstech@ecuad.ca (Teen + Youth programs and workshops) if you have questions or require assistance to support your curriculum and teaching needs in the studio or teaching spaces.

    If you need immediate technical support operating built-in av equipment such as mounted projectors, mounted LED monitors, or WePresent throughout the campus, please call the Collaborative Technologies Support (CTS) hotline at (604) 630-4559.

    The Faculty Guide to Moodle offers more in-depth information about using many of Moodle’s features to activate and enrich your online classes. Please note that we are in the process of updating this to reflect changes in Moodle 3.9.
