The Emily Carr Library is pleased to share that our climate action research assistant Morgan Martino will be running three mending workshops in February and March.

The workshops will run from 11:00 to 1pm on Wednesday February 14th, Thursday February 29th, and Wednesday March 6th on the library mezzanine.

Morgan will focus on hand-based mending skills like sewing, darning, and hemming using hand tools like darning eggs, needle, and thread.

Don’t be intimidated. All skill levels are welcome! Light snacks and tea will also be provided.

If you have any cool scrap fabrics or other sewing supplies, we will gladly take them at the library service desk, or you can bring them to one of the workshops along with any garments you would like to mend.

Mending skills are an important tool in our fight against climate change, especially given the throw-away culture of fast fashion. Morgan will highlight this during her workshops and will also point participants towards more sustainable materials.

Finally, Morgan will be building a lendable mending kit for the library collection, so that is something to look forward to in spring of 2024!
