As a result of the October 5, 2019 fire at the university, the ECU Artists’ Books + Special Collections room and the Archives will be closed until further notice.
When the sprinklers deployed on the fourth floor of the building, the water flowed through the ceiling into our archives space, resulting in a large portion of the archives collection taking on water. With the help of conservators and library staff, all affected materials were packed and sent for vacuum freeze dry treatment, which will ensure that the materials will be returned to us dry and mold free. When the materials are returned, library staff will work with conservators to make decisions about further care and preservation.
Remediation work is also happening on level two of the library, which has cut off access to the library bathroom on that level. There are two accessible bathrooms on level one of the library.
The graphic novel and Teaching and Learning collections have been relocated. If you’re having trouble finding something, please ask a library staff member.
The artists’ books collection was not affected, but it has been temporarily relocated to ensure the objects are not damaged during the remediation process. To access the artists’ books collection, please talk to library staff and we’d be happy to retrieve any titles you are interested in viewing.
Thank you for your patience and support, and stay tuned for more information.
