Telework Resources

To better support our faculty throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, the Communications + Marketing and CTS at Emily Carr University of Art + Design have assembled these guides relating to working off-campus.

There are many different platforms this telework can take place on, such as BlueJeans or Zoom for video conferencing. Instructors may already be familiar with some of these platforms as well. We seek to provide clear explanations for all skill levels of computer literacy. If you need additional help, please contact CTS: cts@ecuad.ca.

Video conferencing

Whether for online classes, faculty meetings, or one-on-one catch-ups, video conferences are an essential tool for the continuation of a healthy educational environment.

This guide will cover two video conferencing services that staff, faculty and administration have been using to accommodate their telework needs.

BlueJeans

Using BlueJeans, you are able to host or participate in virtual meetings also known as BlueJeans sessions. Here are a few things that BlueJeans can do:

  • Communicate with up to 150 participants at once by using a camera and/or microphone
  • Share screen content such as presentations, documents, or websites
  • Text chat/private messaging for all participants
  • Cross-platform compatibility (computer, smartphone, tablet, telephone)
  • On-demand video recording of BlueJeans sessions

Zoom

The other video conferencing platform we support is Zoom. Currently, Zoom is used for specific purposes such as large Meetings and Webinars. Much like BlueJeans, in Zoom you can:

  • Communicate with up to 500 participants (Zoom Webinar) and up to 300 participants (Zoom Meeting) at once by using a camera and/or microphone
  • Share screen content such as presentations, documents, or websites
  • Text chat/private messaging for all participants
  • Cross-platform compatibility (computer, smartphone, tablet, telephone)
  • On-demand video recording of Zoom Meetings/Webinars

In addition to these features, Zoom also offers the following:

  • User Registration
  • Q&A (only available in Webinars)
  • Polling
  • Closed Captioning
  • Breakout Rooms (only available in Meetings)
  • Reactions (only available in Meetings)
  • Non-verbal Feedback (i.e.: Raise hand)

For now, let's take a look at what you need to get started with Zoom.
