Chelsea has worked in art education for over 10 years and is passionate about helping students navigate art school and achieve their creative and academic goals.


Research Interests

Outside of her role at Emily Carr, Chelsea is an artist working in illustration and printmaking. She is the illustrator of several children's books and regularly teaches art and illustration in Vancouver.

Description

This course varies in topic from section to section, and is repeatable for credit so long as the thematic topic has changed. This course will introduce students to illustration methodologies and develop a capacity for critical discourse concerning the content of imagery in applied art practices. This will be achieved through an iterative process that maintains a continued focus on a specialized skill set. Topics might include: Colour Theory, Digital Illustration, and Perspective, among others. As an impressively diverse field that spans print, screen, objects, and environments physical and virtual, Illustration increasingly necessitates versatility in both material process and problem-solving skills.

Illustration ILUS 305 26/SU

Description

This course varies in topic from section to section, and is repeatable for 3 credits so long as the thematic topic has changed. As a diverse field that spans print, screen, objects and environments both physical and virtual, Illustration increasingly necessitates the ability to adapt. The topics and thematics offered on this course are designed to expose students to a range of unique approaches to illustration practiced within the field. Students will engage in problem solving and debate, research and experimentation. Topics and thematics have included: Allegory, Botanical Illustration, Children's Books, Concept Design, Comics, Editorial, Food, Illustrating Literature and Illustration Design, Sci-Fi, etc.
