Strategic Research Plan
As Emily Carr University’s new Associate Vice President, I am excited and humbled to join this innovative and thoughtful community. I look forward to building on its unique research strengths, identifying new opportunities, enhancing the University’s innovative research environment, and supporting the university’s commitment to creative and critical research in design, media, and art.
Over the next several months, the Research and Industry Office will work collaboratively with colleagues across all faculties and staff to articulate a vision for the next five years with a new Strategic Research Plan (SRP). The University Senate has been informed of the renewal process and an advisory council will be charged to draft a new SRP.
I encourage the ECU community— students, faculty and staff—to help shape the themes and goals of the renewed SRP. Your feedback will also help to refine our strategic objectives and inform our future direction. A Moodle site for internal use has been created; all ECU community members are welcome to submit comments.
Thank you to everyone that has made a contribution to this process.

The upcoming Strategic Research Plan
At its meeting of December 3, 2018, the ECU Senate on the recommendation of the Associate Vice President of Research, endorsed the extension of the ECU’s Strategic Research Plan until the earlier of December 31, 2019 or such time as it is replaced by a new Strategic Research Plan.
The current Strategic Research Plan was drafted in 2013 in consultation with a broad cross-section of the Emily Carr community under the leadership of the Director of Research. It is endorsed by the President and is approved by the Senate. In December 2018, the Senate voted to extend the plan to 2019. The current plan can be accessed here.
