Convocation Information for Students

Congratulations!

Our Convocation Planning Committee would like to congratulate each of you as you complete your education journey at Emily Carr.

Please read all the information below for important details on the Convocation Ceremony.

You will soon be receiving emails to your @ecuad.ca account about Convocation; note that all these emails will have Graduation in the subject line.

The Convocation Ceremony

This year's ceremony will be in person and will take place at the UBC Chan Centre for the Performing Arts on Wednesday May 11, 2022.

The graduation ceremony will begin at 1:30pm. We ask students to show up no later than 45 minutes before the ceremony begins.

Your next step: order tickets to the ceremony
  • All graduating students will be given 2 tickets for family and/or friends to attend the ceremony.
  • As a graduate, you do not need a ticket.
  • You will order these 2 tickets directly from the UBC Chan Centre Box Office.
  • We will send out information directly to you on how to order the tickets through the box office.
  • Ticket ordering will open on Wednesday April 6, 2022 .
  • Ticket ordering will close on Monday May 2, 2022.


Optional next step: order your gown, hood and cap
  • If you would like to wear a gown, hood and cap to the ceremony, we will also be inviting you to order these through our gown supplier, Gaspard.
  • There is a minimal cost.
  • The gowns will arrive at the Chan Centre directly the day of the ceremony.
  • Details will also be sent out shortly on how to order them. Please note that this is optional.

The deadline to order gowns, hoods and caps is Monday April 11, 2022.

NameCoach

We will be using NameCoach to ensure your preferred name is spelled and pronounced correctly at the ceremony.

You will have the opportunity to input your name as you want it read. There will be a verification process before the ceremony to ensure that it is correct.

You will also be able to submit a photo of yourself and a photo of your artwork. These will be featured as you cross the stage at the ceremony.

    Your next step: submit your information to NameCoach
    • You will soon receive an email from NameCoach with instructions on how to record and upload your information.
    • Please make sure that you follow the instructions in the email carefully and submit everything by the deadline provided.
    • If you have any concerns about this process, please reach out to Kurt Stavrou in the Registrar's Office.
    • The deadline to complete your NameCoach upload is Thursday March 31, 2022.

    Visit the Grad Help Desk

    The Grad Help Desk provides refreshments, support and information about the Emily Carr University Alumni Association (ECUAA) during the installation of the grad show.

    Graduating students can also pick up their ECUAA welcome gift as they move from student to alumni.

    Students who are unable to stop by during the installation dates will have an opportunity to pick up their ECUAA welcome gift the week following convocation. Information about these dates and times will be sent to @ecuad.ca email addresses.

    Visit us May 3-6 from 11 AM to 1 PM each day near Reception, adjacent to the MOEC.
