Documentary AMPLIFY HER Coming to the Rio Theatre with Two Back-to-Back Screenings Official Trailer
Local filmmakers are bringing the documentary AMPLIFY HER to Vancouver with two back-to-back screenings at the Rio Theatre on November 28th - featuring work from 3 Emily Carr alumini; Kristen Turcotte (animation), Krista Gibbard and Molly AppleJohn (illustration).
Expect to meet many amazing members of various studios from around town at the screening!
Shinsuke Minegishi Exhibition in Tokyo, Japan
Galerie Malle in Tokyo will be featuring "the journey", an exhibition of prints by CS Instructor, Print Media Tech and Alumnus, Shinsuke Minegishi ('98), along with poems by Ryoko Minegishi. The exhibit takes place from June 13 to 25, 2017, with an Opening Reception taking place on Saturday, June 17 from 5 to 7pm.
Shinsuke Minegishi | Recurring Cycles
Shinsuke Minegishi, is holding a solo exhibition entitled recurring cycles at Vernon Public Art Gallery. The exhibit runs from March 16 to May 17, 2017, with an opening reception and artist talk on Thursday, March 16 from 6 to 8PM.
Minegishi’s exhibition Recurring Cycles is a contemplative and philosophical engagement with the universal cycles of the ‘beginning’ and the ‘end’ transposed to human lives, births and deaths of people, namely Minegishi’s close family members and friends. As he points out, the exhibition Recurring Cycles is based on his life experiences and reflection on the cyclical nature of a universal phenomenon.
Jeanne Krabbendam | Post Secondary Award in Visual Arts Excellence
Congratulations to Continuing Studies painting instructor, Jeanne Krabbendam, who was recently named the 2016 recipient of the Post-Secondary Award for Excellence in the teaching of Visual Arts by the British Columbia Art Teachers’ Association (BCATA).
The BCATA awards outstanding visual arts educators at the following levels: Primary, Intermediate, Graduation, Post-Secondary, and Other (e.g. Museum Educator, Lifetime Achievement, District Resource, Emerging Educator…)
Jeanne has taught for Continuing Studies for eleven years and is highly regarded by her students, stating that she is "...a joy to learn from."
Justin Langlois Moderates | Mobilizing the Arts for Community Connection and Change
Mobilizing the Arts for Community Connection and Change will explore art as a catalyst for sparking community imagination around belonging, trust, and social resiliency in urban centres.
The one day summit will be moderated by Emily Carr Assistant Professor, Justin Langlois, and features presentations from Emily Carr faculty, Zoe Kreye and Holly Schmidt, along with talks and workshops by artists from the wider Vancouver community including: Corey Bulpitt, Alex Grünenfelder, Carmen Papalia and Ayotzi 68.
Andrea Taylor | Solo Exhibition at Back Gallery Project
Reference images from stills of the 1896 film showing Loïe Fuller’s Serpentine Dance are pushed though various strategies and filters in Continuing Studies instructor, Andrea Taylor’s process, which includes a variety of media and an interest in visceral responses to visual art.

Shinsuke Minegishi | Solo Exhibition at Striped House Gallery, Tokyo
Alumnus + Print Media Studio Tech Shinsuke Minegishi ('98) is holding a solo exhibition at Striped House Gallery in Tokyo from June 18 to 29, 2016. An opening reception will take place on June 18 from 4:30 to 6:30pm.
A poem reading performance by Ryoko Minegishi will take place on June 25 from 7 to 8pm.

Andrea Taylor Analogy to a Blue Flame | Malaspina Printmakers
Emily Carr University and Malaspina Printmakers is pleased to present new experimental video and print works by Andrea Taylor, curated by Justin Muir.
The works explore the vulnerability and power of embodied experience with a focus on form, sensation, and temporality through an exploration of 19th century photography and film.

Shinsuke Minegishi is holding a solo exhibition Shinsuke Minegishi: Fragility to Resurrection at Open Studio Print Sales Gallery in Toronto. The show runs from March 18 to April 23, 2016.
If you are in Toronto, an opening reception will take place on Friday, March 18 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. You can meet the artist on Saturday, April 2 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
